Seat Leon / Cupra Formentor MK4 MIB3 firmware upgrade to version 1969

ATTENTION: The procedure described in this guide is performed at your own risk. I am not responsible for any damage that may occur to your system/car as a result of following this guide.

I have upgrade my Seat Leon of 2020 from the firmware version 1940 to the 1969. See here the guide for the prevoius software version 1940.

ATTENTION: If your existing Leon/Formentor software is older than 1890 or you get a checksum error when trying to update then please download and install the included 1899 software release link prior to the installation of 1969. This upgrade works from the 1804 version and up.

For upgrade your MIB3 infotainment follow these step:

  1. Take an USB storage device with 16GB of available space, or higher. If you need to use an USB-A to USB-C adapter be sure that it is of good quality. I have use a 64GB USB storage device with an USB-C connector.
  2. Download the zip file here available. This file contain the firmware v1969.
  3. Extract the file using 7-zip.
  4. Insert the USB storage device and format as FAT32 (exFAT for larger devices)
  5. Drag the 2 folders within the download container folder onto the root of the USB device. You should see “Meta” & “data” folders at the root of the USB storage if you have done it correctly.
  6. Remove the USB device from PC and place into one of the vehicles front USB ports.
  7. Start the car engine and keep it on
  8. Hold the menu button on the display, then press “software versions/updates”
(The unit may enter the red engineering menu for this. It can take a minute to do so).
  9. Press “Update”
  10. Press “USB”
  11. Press the software version it presents then scroll and press start
  12. Once update is complete, press back then cancel software version management
  13. Do not remove the USB storage until the Infotainment is back to normal operation
  14. Once back to normal operation, remove the USB device. You’re good to go!

Worked from the 1899 version without upgrading to 1940 first.
Remark for step 12, once completed I did not get the option “cancel”, but I had “resume”.
After pressing resume it did a restart and I got the notification that the updates were done (press ok).
The system restarted again (the same as you normally start /get in your car) and that was it, it was in normal operation. After this step 14 and removed the USB drive.

– 2022 Formentor VZ2 Copper
– Kinston 256GB flashdrive with USB A-C Connector, exFAT formatting.

Is this region dependent? Can it be used for Australian cars?

I’m currently on 1898, does this need to be upgraded to 1899 -> 1940 -> 1969? Or, can I go straight to 1969?

Worked perfectly on my Leon 1.5eTsi. Just changed to a Leon 2.o Tsi and performed the update from 1890 to 1936 in one go. Perfect again !
Thanks 🙂

Noah

after extracting i got a extra file named “MQB37_SE_1969.00.ver“ next to the two folders. Is this correct or do i need to delete this before updating?
